There’s the AFN convention, the AK Ski Swap — and haunting activities as Halloween approaches.

The air is crisp like a Braeburn apple, and the scent of pumpkin lattes is in the air. We are officially in full fall mode. That means it’s time for many of the traditions of October. Among them is the Alaska Federation of Natives convention, a major gathering for the state’s largest Alaska Native organization. Plus there’s the AK Ski Swap for those ready for snow to fall. And of course October means Halloween, and events are already starting to ramp up.

The pair were dressed up as fairies to take part in the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Halloween trick-or-treat night at the park at Goose Lake. In the mood to be haunted? Creatures of the forest will come alive at the haunted trail at Goose Lake on Friday night. Presented by Anchorage Parks and Recreation, this event is intended for ages 9 and up.are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. On Saturday, the same trails will become enchanted with forest fairies, knights and hidden wizards and elves.
