The Witcher killed 6 characters too early.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Netflix's The Witcher has already killed six characters who, according to the books, should still be alive at this point in the story. The Witcher is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series of the same name, following the titular witcher, Geralt of Rivia, and his young ward, Cirilla of Cintra.
In the show, however, there is nothing ambiguous about Eskel's fate. After being possessed by a leshy and threatening to kill everyone in Kaer Morhen, Geralt and Vesemir are forced to kill him with a flaming sword through the heart. Nothing remotely like this happens in the book series, but it is a thrilling moment early on in The Witcher season 2. Even so, it's disappointing that Eskel died so early without ever being properly characterized.
4 Mousesack — Druid From Skellige Dies in The Witcher season 1, episode 5 Close Mousesack, the druid and advisor to Queen Calanthe of Cintra, is one of the most likeable characters in The Witcher season 1, which makes his death tragic to watch. Mousesack dies in the aftermath of the slaughter of Cintra, when Cahir tracks him down and gives him to a doppler, which immediately kills him and steals his appearance.
In the books, Rience stays in the game for much longer, hunting Ciri relentlessly across the continent. Ciri eventually gets the jump on him though, in what is one of the book series' most iconic scenes. While traveling alone to the Tower of the Swallow, Rience and several other antagonists catch up with Ciri, following her across a frozen, mist-covered lake.
In the book series, Filavandrel is not present at the Thanned coup, and he only meets with Francesca once the coup has been completed and the elves have been granted land by Nilfgaard. While he ends up joining Francesca, they never have a romance, and neither one of them dies before the end of the series. Filavandrel fades to the background after his meeting with Francesca, however, so his death in The Witcher season 3 shouldn't affect the story too much.
