6 people suffer smoke inhalation in house fire in City Heights [Breaking]

Six people suffered smoke inhalation when a blaze tore through a house in City Heights on Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported about 2:30 p.m. on 45th Street just north of Orange Avenue. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief Ty Shimoguchi told OnScene TV that four or five people possibly had been squatting in the house. When firefighters arrived, the fire was “well involved” in the kitchen and living room, Shimoguchi said.“The firefighters did a great job preventing it from spreading to nearby homes,” said spokesperson Mónica Muñoz.

At least two of the people who suffered smoke inhalation were taken to a hospital for treatment, Muñoz said. Others were treated at the scene.
