Scientists can't see this elusive dark matter directly, but they know it's there because of its gravitational influence.
The universe is a vast and mysterious place. Telescopes and other tech can spot stars, planets, and galaxies, but that’s only about 5% of the story. The rest is shrouded in darkness — the dark matter and dark energy.
Therefore, the chamber itself is not intended to capture dark matter directly, but rather “dark walls” as proposed in scalar field theory. Dark walls are like fault lines in an invisible field. “To successfully demonstrate that dark walls have been trapped, we will let a cold atom cloud pass through those walls,” Hackermueller added. The experiment simulates the conditions in space by “moving from a dense environment to a less dense environment.”
