A 3-year-old child is reportedly dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Wharton.
On Friday, around 5:20 p.m. Wharton Police Department responded to a call at Wharton’s Oak Bend Emergency Room about a young boy with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
According to reports, the mother says her child gained access to her firearm inside her nightstand and accidentally shot himself.Officials say after life-saving measures were exhausted by doctors, nurses, and staff, along with Wharton EMS who assisted, the 3-year-old was pronounced dead. The case is currently being investigated by Wharton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available
