Mike Macdonald said the Seahawks “can be so much better” despite their 3-0 start. Here are some ways that can be achieved.
“We have the opportunity to learn so much about who we are, how we’re going to grow our operation throughout the week, how we prepare, and we can be so much better.” Those were the opening words from Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald on Monday, the day after Seattle’s 24-3 win over the Miami Dolphins. It’s the first time that the Seahawks have started 3-0 since 2020, which is perhaps not coincidentally the last time Seattle won the NFC West.
Seattle is 0-of-16 on 3rd and 10+, and only the Houston Texans and historically bad Cleveland Browns have faced more 3rd and 10+ plays than the Seahawks. All of this this ties into the Seahawks’ issues with penalties and early down sacks—Geno Smith has not been sacked on third down yet—putting them at a horrendous disadvantage. Fix this and the 3rd down numbers will normalize. The Seahawks special teams is not off to a great start under Jay Harbaugh.
