How does Toyota's newest off-road SUV compare to the segment's top dogs?

We looked at the specifications and recent tests of the similarly positionedThe first, most obvious differences come from these SUV s' powertrains. Toyota equips the 2025 4Runner with one of two versions of the same i-Force turbocharged 2.4-liter I-4: One with hybridization, and one without.
Lastly, the Ford Bronco Raptor veers from the others with its standard 418-hp, 440-lb-ft twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6. There are less thirsty and less powerful non-Raptor Bronco engine options: on premium fuel, a turbocharged 2.3-liter I-4 producing 300 hp and 325 lb-ft and an available twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 making 330 hp and 415 lb-ft, but no Bronco currently offers hybrid power.
Toyota also says the Trailhunter's Old Man Emu 2.5-inch shocks along with the 33-inch Toyo Open Country A/T tires boost up Trailhunter an additional two inches in the front and one and a half inches in the rear. Taken at face value, it would follow the Trailhunter and TRD Pro might have up to 11.2 inches of ground clearance.
Naturally, these wheelbase, overall length, overhang, and ground clearance measurements contribute to off-road approach and departure angles. The Ford’s and Jeep’s stubby overhangs allow them to achieve very impressive 47.2/40.5 and 43.8/35.6 degrees approach and departure angles, respectively. We’ll assume Toyota is quoting either the TRD Pro or Trailhunter when it says, “up to 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angles.
