The Ford Ranger gains a plug-in hybrid version that outperforms its gasoline and diesel counterparts, excluding the Raptor
The Ford Ranger PHEV debuted at the IAA Transportation with an exclusive Stormtrak trim. The powertrain combines a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with a single electric motor, producing 275 hp. The electrified truck retains the payload, towing, and off-road capabilities of the standard Ranger. Ford introduced the plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger midsize truck at the 2024 IAA Transportation in Hannover, exactly one year after announcing the electrified model.
Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox and an e-4WD system, featuring a dual-range transfer box and rear differential lock. Ford engineers tweaked the suspension setup, taking into account the different weight distribution of the PHEV. As with the non-electrified Ranger, the PHEV has a 1-tonne payload and can tow up to 3,500 kg .
