Two USUBasketball starters have entered the transfer portal. Sean Bairstow and Max Shulga started every game for the Aggies last season, helping USU reach win 26 games and make the NCAA tournament.

“After speaking with my family and friends, and considering what is best for my future, I have come to the decision to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility,” Bairstow wrote in post shared on social media Monday.

Bairstow averaged 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last season. Shulga, who averaged 11.9 points and 4.5 assists, will have two years of eligibility remaining. “No matter where basketball takes me, this is an experience I’ll remember and cherish forever,” Shulga wrote in a post on Instagram. Both players announced their plans to enter the portal days after coach Ryan Odom left Logan to take the head coaching job at VCU.“Look, VCU is getting a really good coach,” interim USU athletics director Jerry Bovee said after Odom’s departure. “... We had no reason to believe [Odom] wouldn’t be here to fulfill his contract, but we’re living in crazy times. The days of Stew Morrill being here for 17 or 18 years, those are anomalies that aren’t happening as much in our business.
