Four free agent signees have the highest annual salaries this season for the Reds while the next two aren't on the team

MIAMI - JUNE 9: Ken Griffey Jr. #3 of the Cincinnati Reds takes batting practice prior to seeking his 600th career home run against the Florida Marlins on June 9, 2008 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida.

The league average team payroll in 2024, according to Spotrac.com, was $163.5 million, and the Reds ranked No. 24 at $101.6 million. That takes into account the 26-man roster, injured reserve, retained salaries and buried costs. It's the next two on the list that may surprise some. Joey Votto's $7 million retained from his buyout this offseason was next on the list. Votto eventually signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and is still rehabbing an ankle injury. The 40-year-old is not guaranteed a spot on the Major League roster when healthy.

Griffey, now 54 years old, played nine seasons in Cincinnati and was traded on July 31, 2008, to the Chicago White Sox for pitcher Nick Masset and infielder Danny Richar.
