Two people were killed early Wednesday when they were thrown from their moped during a hit-and-run that set off a chain reaction of crashes along Interstate 45 in southeast Houston, officials said.
Officers arrested the two people in connection with one of those secondary crashes, but were still working to identify the vehicle that first struck the moped as of early Wednesday, Sgt. David Rose, of the Houston Police Department, told On Scene reporters.Police around 12:11 a.m. responded to a report of a crash on the freeway, near the intersection of Cullen Boulevard, Rose said. Witnesses told investigators a moped with a man and woman aboard before fleeing.
The man and woman were then struck by multiple other vehicles after the initial crash, Rose said. They were pronounced dead at the scene. As emergency responders arrived at the scene, another crash happened that resulted in the arrests, Rose said.
