The plot follows an aspiring filmmaker who murders his subjects. He is obsessed with the idea of fear, so he attaches a weapon to his camera to capture the fear his victims feel in the moments before their deaths. The voyeurism, horror, and eroticism outraged audiences and critics. The fact that the horror film was otherwise grounded in British realism made it even scarier.
