Officers inspect a fatal car crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 610 South Loop near Kirby Drive on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023.Two major high-speed crashes in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 610 South Loop shut down the freeway for several hours overnight and led to the death of one man and arrest of another.
The first crash was reported at around 10 p.m. Saturday after witnesses saw a driver in a dark car racing across the freeway before losing control and slamming into a wall near Kirby Drive. The man died when the car overturned, and Houston police are waiting to hear from the county medical examiner on whether alcohol was a factor.
