Instructure, which administers the learning program Canvas to over 8,000 schools, was allegedly the victim of a hacker group called ShinyHunters. The group compromised many school login pages and claims to have accessed schools' data, with a May 12 deadline to negotiate a settlement. It's unclear what data the group may have accessed or if Instructure's data was actually breached. The company's website said its systems are in "maintenance mode.
" Schools such as Ohio State, Kent State, Ohio University, Capital University, and dozens of others use Canvas in Ohio. Several school districts, such as Columbus City Schools, Hilliard City Schools, and Delaware City Schools, list Canvas or Instructure portals. Ohio State's seniors' grades were due on May 6 by noon, the university said. Faculty who can calculate grades without the learning platform can submit grades to another system.
