Daniela Klette, a former member of the far-left militant Red Army Faction (RAF), has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for her role in a series of armed robberies committed during her three decades as a fugitive. The 67-year-old was arrested in Berlin in 2024 after living under a false identity for years.
A German regional court has sentenced Daniela Klette , a 67-year-old former member of the far-left militant Red Army Faction (RAF), to 13 years in prison for her role in a series of armed robberies committed during her three decades on the run.
Klette, once dubbed 'Germany's most-wanted woman', spent three decades as a fugitive after her involvement with the RAF, which was responsible for dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries before its dissolution in 1998. She was finally arrested in February 2024 in Berlin, where she had been living under a false identity. Her conviction follows a year-long trial that began in March 2025.
Prosecutors accused Klette and two other former RAF members of committing armed robberies against cash-in-transit vehicles and supermarkets across several cities in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia between 1999 and 2016 to fund their underground lives. The court convicted Klette of multiple offenses, including aggravated robbery and weapons violations, for her part in eight of the group's robberies, totaling over €2.4 million in stolen funds.
Supporters of Klette protested her sentence at the court, but she could face further trials for alleged involvement in RAF attacks from the early 1990s. Despite her criminal past, Klette appeared to have lived a 'normal social life' in Berlin, even taking vacations abroad and sharing her apartment with a man who was unaware of her true identity until her arrest
