The Anchorage Birding Trail is officially opening on Wednesday, according to Audubon Alaska, giving birdwatchers a detailed guide to the area’s best birding spots.
ANCHORAGE , Alaska - The Anchorage Birding Trail is officially opening on Wednesday, according to Audubon Alaska , giving birdwatchers a detailed guide to the area’s best birding spots.
Audubon Alaska held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Westchester boat launch, followed by a bird walk around the lagoon led by Audubon Alaska staff.
“The Anchorage Birding Trail is an invitation to slow down, to pay attention, and to recognize the extraordinary natural world that exists alongside all of us,” said David Krause, Vice President of Audubon Alaska. As of 2025, a total of 285 bird species had been recorded in the Anchorage area, according to Audubon Alaska.
Now, the trail includes 35 sites across the Anchorage area to see all those species, with detailed descriptions and directions for each site, on “For the past two years, we’ve been doing some recon on the 35 birding sites,” said Lauren Cusimano, spokesperson for Audubon Alaska.
