Cape Town International Airport has done it again, snagging the top spot for the seventh year in a row.
The award was presented in Paris, France at the 2022 World Airport Awards and saw Cape Town take home the award for “Best Airport in Africa.” However, the trophies kept on flowing, and the airport managed to receive awards for “Best Staff in Africa” and “Cleanest Airport in Africa,” as per IOL.
Despite the cheers and excitement that came with being crowned the victor, the airport managed to slip a few places in the global rankings, stepping down from its position at 33 in 2021 to 49 in 2022, reports Business Insider.
The awards and rankings are based on customer satisfaction surveys conducted among travellers which evaluate traveller experiences across various airport services, including check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure.
Johannesburg’s OR Tambo maintained its position as the third-best airport in Africa but saw its worst slide ever, dropping 17 places in the global rankings which saw it step down from 54 in 2021 to 71 in 2022.
Doha’s Hamad International Airport is still considered the best airport in the world, followed by Tokyo and Singapore.
