Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has responded to a rule change meaning masks are no longer required in the House of Representatives for people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Greene has regularly rallied against mask requirements in Congress' lower chamber and been an outspoken critic of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
On Friday, Greene shared a Newsmax article detailing the changes and took aim at Pelosi in her accompanying comments.
"Well I wasn't going to wear a mask anyways," Greene said.
"Speaker Maskhole never cared about covid, she only cares about power & control."
Greene pointed to measures that had been put in place earlier in the pandemic, such as plastic screens in the House, and said Pelosi "brought covid positive members in the Capitol."
Greene was one of seven GOP members who protested against the mandate, which was accompanied by fines for those who broke it, last month. She received a warning letter, which she went on to shred. She shared a clip of her doing so on Twitter.
"This is what I think of Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi's letter," Greene tweeted, alongside the hashtag #FreeYourFace.
Greene said in the video: "You can't discriminate against people simply because they won't wear a mask.
"And today I refused to wear a mask on the House floor and I received a warning from Speaker Pelosi that lists the fines if I continue to refuse to wear a mask."
New guidance was sent out Friday by Congress' attending physician stating masks would no longer be required for fully vaccinated people in the House.
This brings the House into line with new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control issued in May.
This stated that people who had been fully vaccinated could resume activities without wearing masks or distancing, except in areas where this was required by laws or regulations governing a specific area.
"If you haven't been vaccinated yet, find a vaccine," this said.
"Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance."
