Zimbabwe in crisis: Tensions rise over SA envoy 'snub' eNCA

Zimbabwe’s main opposition says the cancellation of its meeting with the envoys is an indication that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not ready to resolve the national crisis. Duduzile Ramela spoke to Movement for Democratic Change deputy president Tendai Biti.HARARE - Zimbabwe’s main opposition said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the reason a meeting with South African envoys did not take place on Monday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed the envoys to help mediate in the deepening crisis in that country.MDC deputy president Tendai Biti said they were advised that a delegation was in the country. "Around 6pm [Monday] we then contacted the South African embassy and the SA ambassador advised us that the envoy would not be able to meet us," said Biti."But we understand that Emmerson Mnangagwa threw tantrums and prevented the delegation from seeing us to the reason that there is no crisis in Zimbabwe and no basis for the intervention, which we find unsustainable and unacceptable.

"There is a crisis in Zimbabwe, there is an implosion, the military are everywhere suffocating people’s rights, and people are being abducted, tortured, and sexually abused so leadership is required of the region of Cyril Ramaphosa. "We find actions and tantrums of President Emmerson Mnangagwa totally unacceptable," the opposition leader said.
