The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged governments to put the safety of women and children first as they respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The call follows a “horrifying global surge in domestic violence” linked to lockdowns imposed to fight the spread of Covid-19.

The combination of economic and social stresses brought on by the pandemic, as well as restrictions on movement, have dramatically increased the numbers of women and girls facing abuse, in almost all countries, according to the UN. Research by the World Health Organisation , has detailed disturbing impacts of violence on women’s physical, sexual, reproductive and mental health.

The only difference is that we’re not behind bars and locked behind steel doors – but it feels as if we’re in a ‘democratic’ prison” Yip. This is the problem with prepping for something that is in an infancy I guess. It could be worse. Covid-19 lockdown rules relaxed as positive tests near 1 500 - The Mail & GuardianGovernment has relaxed some of the Covid-19 lockdown regulations to allow people to travel outside their home province to attend funerals and to free up the movement of food, medicine and other essential goods from South Africa’s harbours. Is it really necessary for people to travel across provinces? I still feel the provincial boundaries should have been shut before the lockdown was announced to control the spread 🤷🏽‍♂️ Everything that must be done must be based on thought process not amandla, supported by logical reasoning and science but also taking into account our people way of living. The colonialism created migrants working situations. Our response must cater for these (not same as Euro)
