Cape Town’s The Kiffness’ version of the national anthem protesting the cigarette ban has taken off across social media. The act was previously involved in Max Hurrell’s Zol video mashup of Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s frank advice about dagga use during the Covid-19 crisis. “Sounds the zol to come together, and united f**k the ban,” goes one line. I reppect the artistry. I understand parody. I understand jokes. But I cannot accept this. Using our national anthem is unpatriotic and shameful. There are billions of other songs he could’ve used. Leave our beloved anthem alone TheKiffness - you can do better.
This is just horrible. The National Anthem is a prayer. I do like jokes and funny stuff, but this is not funny. We have a beautiful National Anthem. It is goose bumps beautiful. This is gross in the extreme.
