Confusion reigns on the status of the Stormers and MVM Holdings’ proposed equity deal, but the one certain thing is that the US consortium is now also talking to the Sharks, writes Simnikiwe Xabanisa

Depending on who you speak to, the negotiations between the Cape Town franchise and MVM Holdings – which have dragged on way beyond the initial 45-day exclusivity talks arrangement because Western Province’s elected officials refuse to hand the Americans 51% control for their estimated R100 million cash investment – are either ongoing or finally off.

Western Province president Zelt Marais didn’t respond to text messages and a phone call requesting clarity on the union’s current stance on the talks, but a source familiar with the deliberations said the proposed deal was “off, and that consortium is now talking to the Sharks”.exclusive journalism and features
