Health minister Zweli Mkhize says the ban has assisted in reducing alcohol-related trauma cases in hospitals

, have called for the ban to be lifted, citing that it was causing financial devastation.

Proposals have been made to the government to lift the ban on liquor sales and distribution under level 3 lockdown. On social media, users aired their frustrations about the liquor ban, with many saying it was “unjustifiable”.So here’s a question. Instead of a blanket ban of alcohol. If you were The President of South Africa what you do to limit alcohol related trauma amidst a pandemic?Because of the alcohol ban, at stake are 165,000 jobs, and in South Africa, 165,000 jobs means more than 600,000 people who depend on those 165,000 people will be impacted adversely.

New policies to alcohol sale in SA needed anyway. A suspect method of making money...a bad way to spend the weekend making a few people rich. Break down monopolies reconstitute craft ownership of the industry. Perfect time to put money the industry siphons back into families.

The trauma unit argument is a distraction from the fact that the Government failed to plan appropriately and allowed the R577 BN to be misappropriated. Banning alcohol sales further is destroying SA' s wine and liquor industry and destroying livelihoods. This is a bandaid

You're an absolute genius!

You mean trauma units that were incompetent before Covid19. Alcohol will always be the scapegoat. The ban must be lifted!

Whatever, where is our vaccines?

Of course it has. The question is why could we not handle these trauma cases normally, and then add capacity go COVID cases. The answer; government never had the capacity to deal with hospital admissions before Covid, then we gave them all this money and they still can't do it.

Had nothing to do with managing the spread of Covid.

Alchohol is still freely available, the ban makes no difference

Zweli is a filthy scumbag

Lift the ban the majority of bottles stores are owed by Chinese so only opening bottle stores won't work

And, are we supposed to believe it?

Eish we still have a long way to go hey....I can imagine ☹️ the situation for those who are working under alcohol industry...it's BAD

There’s no empirical evidence - but continue with your conjecture !

With the billions the ANC stole the least was to build a covid hospital and hire more doctors and nurses........

just deal with shortages of trauma units and stop blaming alcohol. what will happen when the alcohol ban will be lifted next month? Are you still going to cry for trauma units?

This people are getting their salaries every month They give 0 fucks about what happens to the poor.
