Sars commissioner Edward Kieswetter said in a statement on Wednesday that he had received legal advice and a strong recommendation from the relevant Sars governance committee to seek leave to appeal. The two media outlets were granted access by the court in May, after arguing that when the tax compliance of a head of state is in question, they should be able to invoke their rights of access to information, or challenge the constitutionality of any statutory hindrance to this.
