Salaries account for 65% of the South African Bureau of Standards’ total operating‌ costs

‌on‌ ‌17‌ ‌March‌,‌ ‌that the‌ ‌SABS‌ ‌group‌ ‌recorded‌ ‌a‌ ‌year-end‌ ‌loss‌ ‌of‌ ‌R74-million‌ ‌in‌ ‌2020.‌ ‌The‌ ‌institution‌ ‌did‌ ‌not‌ ‌achieve‌ ‌its‌ ‌revenue‌ ‌targets‌ ‌and‌ ‌is‌ ‌below‌ ‌budget‌ ‌by‌ ‌R26-million.‌ A‌ ‌notice‌ ‌sent‌ ‌out‌ ‌to‌ ‌staff‌ ‌on‌ ‌11‌ ‌March‌ ‌reads‌ ‌that‌ the ‌SABS‌ ‌“‌ is‌ ‌currently‌ ‌contemplating‌ ‌reducing‌ ‌its‌ ‌headcount‌ ‌based‌ ‌on‌ ‌operational‌ ‌requirements‌ ‌.‌ ‌As‌ ‌such‌ ‌we‌ ‌would‌ ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌commence‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌consultation‌ ‌process‌ ‌in‌ ‌terms‌ ‌of‌ ‌section‌ ‌189‌ ‌‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌Labour‌ ‌Relations‌ ‌Act‌.”

Bruinou2 The failure of the SABC, Eskom, SAA is directly contributed to the fact that the IDC and other DFI's fails to create new industries and thus increase the amount of jobs available in SA. If no one can make this logical conclusion either than myself, we are in grave danger

I wonder what the productivity to salary scale ratio looks like?

I’m guessing that a lot of these are highly qualified technical people - as required for SABS - not bureaucrats. Can SABS afford to cut them?
