BREAKING NEWS: President Cyril Ramaphosa announces SA moves to alert level 1 lockdown, effective later this evening. FamilyMeeting

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that Cabinet has approved a move from adjusted level 3 lockdown to level 1, effective later on the evening of Sunday 28 February.

Level 1 lockdown restrictions see an easing of many of the tighter restrictions imposed under level 3.In his address, Ramaphosa said a year after the virus first reached our shores, we have a clear path towards containing infections and, ultimately, overcoming the disease. "South Africa’s scientists and research institutions have made an important contribution to these efforts and have contributed to global knowledge about the disease, including on the emergence of new variants."

All provinces have established vaccination sites and have put in place plans for the expansion of the programme as it gains momentum.
