Republican senator backs scathing rebuke of Trump by James Mattis

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people — does not even pretend to try,” Mattis wrote in a statement posted online by The Atlantic.We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership.” But while several other Republican senators said they respected Mattis, they shrugged at his criticisms.
