Ramaphosa unveils Tambo statue

The giant statue of struggle stalwart Oliver Tambo unveiled at the OR Tambo International Airport.s longest-serving president is being honoured with a bronze statue at an airport named after him -- OR Tambo.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has hailed Tambo as the man who articulated the aspirations of South Africans who yearned for freedom. "OR Tambo was the architect of our freedom. And thanks to his activism, people living in this distant lands got to know of our struggle and gladly joined it," Ramaphosa said.Ramaphosa said it was fitting that the statue is erected at an airport that is named after him, which is the gateway to the world.

While millions of people are starving, or forgotten let us focus on a statue. I wonder if the EFF or BLM and such will go take it down?

😔 It is a beautiful statue but homes for the homeless who have been waiting for decades would have been so much more impressive Mr. President ....

Tambo will never be at peace, ANC using his legacy and have tainted it forever.

The irony is that in 100 years, we will be taking down these statues too ... History never stops recreating itself.

I don’t support Tambo’s ideology and to me he was a terrorist. However, I would never call for the removal or vandalizing of his statue because to many South Africans he’s seen as a hero and it’s part of our history. preservehistoryregardless

Does it not concern you that the statue has an ANC logo? You don't seem to speak so loudly about it. Or is it because it's Ramaphosa who was unveiling the statue!!
