As the Unisa branch of the Academic and Professional Staff Association of South Africa , we entirely understand that “everyone has the right to freedom of expression” as it is entrenched in section 16 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.
While we note and respect Professor Jansen’s opinion on Unisa’s transformational criteria which was entitled “JONATHAN JANSEN: Unisa’s dumbing-down signals it has no faith in black people” and which was published in the media on August 15 2019, it is clear that he reacted to it with little understanding and unclarified thoughts. It seems Idries Shah was right in his avowal that “opinion is usually something which people have when they lack comprehensive information.
