Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the Africa Cup of Nations amid rumours of a disciplinary breach, and the country's all-time leading goalscorer has broken his silence on the matter. SLInt 😟 MORE:

Aubameyang was unavailable for Gabon's opening two AFCON 2021 games, missing their win over Comoros after contracting the coronavirus before being left out of the matchday squad that drew with Ghana due to a heart concern.

The Gabonese Football Federation announced last week that Aubameyang, along with teammates Mario Lemina and Axel Meye, had been found to have"cardiac lesions". both Aubameyang and Lemina will return to their respective clubs, Arsenal and Nice, so that they are able to conduct a more comprehensive prognosis on the players' medical stability.

However, rumours have since been circulating on social media that the two players were not sent away due to health concerns but rather because they had infringed on disciplinary protocol.Translated from French, Aubameyang wrote:"We have problems that are already complicated to solve, then on top of that there are rumours. In short, we have health to take care of first and foremost. I won't go back on these false rumours and I sincerely hope that our team will go as far as possible.
