Nine years ago, The Mercury featured pupils having to cross the raging uMzinyathi river to get to school.Durban - School pupils living in Malanga, KwaHlazakazi, outside Dundee, either have to abandon their studies or leave their homes and seek accommodation closer to school to avoid the danger of wading through the uMzinyathi river daily on their way to and from school. Crossing the uMzinyathi River twice a day is too exhausting and dangerous for many children who move away or end up dropping out of school, community members and former pupils said. Malanga is a deep rural area about 60km outside the Dundee town centre. The Mercury visited the area this week and experienced first-hand the perils children encounter on their way to various schools across the river. The purpose of the visit was to determine whether there had been any developments since the newspaper wrote about the pupils’ plight, detailing their dangerous river crossings, nine years ago. KZN (rural) homes are spread so far apart and people will always find a shortcut through rivers because it might mean they have to walk 2km to a bridge and back when crossing the river would be 200m

Parktown principal suspended, teachers to be charged - Panyaza LesufiGauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has suspended Parktown Boys' High School principal Malcolm Williams following the death of grade 8 pupil Enoch Mpianzi while on a school camp. Lesufi is playing to the gallery and is opening the department up for litigation. I hope the head master sues this arshole lesufi as they are now selectively suspending a headmaster because he is white. What about the headmaster of the kid that drowned in the swimming pool or the headmaster of the school where a truck that reversed in a school build killing 2 We accept the decision taken MEC and we hope justice will prevail on behalf of the family and that such incidents never happen to anyone's child.
Curro rescues Lesufi over shortage of space in public schoolsPrivate school operator Curro has not ruled out lower fees for Gauteng state school pupils who enrol at its institutions. I thought MEC hates racism, isn’t Curro run by Afriforum? Private institutions to the rescue! Mr Lesufi can you not make it easier for private schools to operate so we can place these kids?
KZN schools struggle with utility billsGeorgetown is one of many schools battling with bills they can't afford and the education department feels municipalities are being unreasonable. North West is facing a health hazzard. Blocked drains for more than a week. It is not hygienic at all!!
School vs lodge vs schoolboy testimony: three versions of rafting tragedyHere are three versions of what allegedly transpired when Enoch Mpianzi lost his life, according to the school, the lodge and one of the pupils who last saw Mpianzi We don't care for ANY other version besides that of the eyewitnesses. i.e The grade 8 learner who was trying to avert this tragedy. So, ParktownBoys NyatiBush should just sit down and shut the f*** up. TopSALawyers please sue them to high hell and back. It's simple, the witness has nothing to loose or gain. Unlike the school or the lodge. Easy to figure out who is telling the truth... Criminally (murder) charge the school teachers who were there, the camp facilitators and camp owner nyathilodge
