school's principal, Malcolm Williams, had been suspended
with immediate effect after the death of Enoch Mpianzi. The 13-year-old Parktown pupil died last week during a river rafting activity while on an orientation camp, leading to widespread claims of negligence on behalf of the school and the camp staff. Lesufi told a news briefing the camping trip had not been approved by the department at a district level. The school, he said, insisted on going on the trip regardless of completion, with Lesufi placing the blame on Williams for allowing this.
He also announced that the officials at a district level who did not flag the request with the department’s head office would also be immediately suspended.
This was gross neglect from organisers teachers and overseers. The pit and open toilets are education department's gross negligence and seem to drag on forever. They don't give a darn about the children.
I wonder when KZN will be charged for those children who drowned crossing rivers to school.
lesufi and others in his party should accept ultimate responsibility You have no humanity
So tired of teachers with many holidays through the year - also planning these trips to have more social gatherings for themselves whilst children are left to themselves. Times must change.
Every childs death is tragic. When school boys die at initiation camps, not much governmental noise. When children drown in pit latrines, government fights the family in court instead of supporting them. This reeks of politics with an agenda.
m not being heartless but so many people to be charged because of one child who went to the water? come on the child was not killed by any of these workers, government must stop gaining popularity by reacting than prevention.
Whatever. Now will the Dept of Basic Education tell us why they didn't take a similarly aggressive and vindictive approach when 5 year old children died in pit toilets, and instead fought the miserly financial settlements awarded against them.
He means based on whether they are white... obviously. He already has SAHRCommission on it!
