What have you done, Quinny? This was my initial reaction when the nation was told one of our best players had opted out of the crucial ICC T20 World Cup match against the defending champions, the West Indies, in the United Arab Emirates.

Quinton de Kock refused to take the knee as a sign of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. This was my initial reaction when the nation was told one of our best players had opted out of the crucial ICC T20 World Cup match against the defending champions, the West Indies, in the United Arab Emirates .

There is also the knee-jerk reaction of the CSA board who, in their infinite wisdom, saw it proper to issue an instruction to the players to take the knee a few hours before an important match against the West Indies. This may be the end of his international and franchise career with the Titans, and it may also affect his prospects of playing in lucrative leagues like the Indian Premier League , where cricket players make money.

I also think the CSA board cannot escape blame for this mess because if they were serious from the beginning about taking the knee, all the team members should have been informed about this decision before they departed for the World Cup. By forcing the players to take the knee, it was a reactionary exercise by the board following the huge outcry after the Australia match where some Proteas players took the knee and others didn’t.

In the current Proteas squad, De Kock mixes and works with people of different races and backgrounds, but given the furore, how are his black teammates and the staff members supposed to deal with him when he is perceived to be insensitive to issues of race?

Read his eloquent and considered response. Easy to pick on him, yet all the dyed in the wool racists who chose to hide behind 'taking the knee' are in the clear? Utter nonsense.

No, he wasn't wrong. How dare you dismiss his 'lived experience' 😂🤣😂

Can't force people to think your life matters too, saying a dogs life matters doesn't mean rhino's life don't matter. Angisho lothu

Tempestuous, arrogancy, and undermining the affected race. Furthermore, it is clear that he does not respect the authority. The decision wasn't based on principles, it is difficult to support him. Authority guides us, if we are not happy, there are proper channels and procedure.

Will taking a knee end racism 🤡🥱 though

Not in 🇿🇦with the history we have & how black players have been treated post 94 in cricket? De Kock should know better, there is no excusing it & all those players who didn’t take the knee. We had state sponsored racism in this country? This we cannot not excuse, it hurts!

Best to keep your opinion to yourself… what utter rubbish . TimesLive needs to do better reporting

Oh ffs. Rabada is super privileged. Wealthy family best schools... But when he embraces the disgusting racism of Julius Malema, who calls for the slaughter of minorities, the press is silent.

He was NOT wrong to refuse.

Forcing the team to take the knee was the wrong approach , considering all the racial allegations flying around at CSA the players should have been doing this voluntarily as a show of unity amongst themselves . A directive from management should not have been necessary

I dont believe he was insensitive about the under privlage, he just stand up against an organisation with an racist agenda that took the world by storm. He might not have a career but he stands high with his dignity in tact.

All life's matter..I don't blame him for his reason I blame the hole knee bending...oh pls the world is in a mess and people wanna carry on..pls fix the hunger the refugees the unnecessary wars the abuse against woman and children...wake up to those that focus on shit like this,,
