At least 24 journalists were killed because of their coverage, and 18 others died in circumstances that make it too difficult to determine whether they were targeted because of their work, the CPJ said on Thursday in its annual survey on press freedom and attacks on the media. “This is the sixth year in a row that CPJ has documented record numbers of journalists imprisoned around the world,” said CPJ executive director Joel Simon. “The number reflects two inextricable challenges — governments are determined to control and manage information, and they are increasingly brazen in their efforts to do so.”

China imprisoned 50 journalists, the most of any country, followed by Myanmar , which arrested reporters as part of a crackdown after its February 1 military coup, then Egypt , Vietnam and Belarus , the CPJ said.

Sharks splash big numbers on the wrong numberThe Sharks spending spree continues but until they get a world class No 10, they will be more pretender than contender when it comes to winning titles, writes mark_keohane. mark_keohane Curwin bosch is good enough for sharks.I disagree with mark_keohane.He is playing superb rugby at the moment. mark_keohane The usual Keo drivel, you should stop linking to it. Where are his suggestions for an alternative? What are the weaknesses he'd want to correct in Bosch's game? How does he see Bosch or his replacement playing in the new Sharks team? It's weak to criticize without going deeper. mark_keohane I agree with Keo for once ,Bosch is not the answer at 10. Blows too hot and cold....
