The country will remain on coronavirus alert level 1 for now. “In taking the decision not to impose further restrictions at this stage, we considered the fact that when we encountered previous waves of infection, vaccines were not widely available and far fewer people were vaccinated.”
Ramaphosa spoke at length about the new Omicron variant and its known and unknown factors and emphasised the importance of vaccinations. But there were still other unknowns about the variant. As more data becomes available, there will be a better understanding on whether this variant causes more diseases and how effective the current vaccines are.
Ramaphosa's address came after the national coronavirus command council met on Saturday. The sharp rise in cases is believed to be driven by the newly identified B.1.1.529 Covid-19 variant, which was given the name Omicron by the World Health Organisation on Friday.
Why would they do that . It's not a solution but bringing everything back to normal is because all this covid thing is just a scam that's all.
SA gov is allowing a situation for more mutations to occur & more new variants. YOU CANNOT HAVE AN OPEN SOCIETY WITH PEOPLE PHYSICALLY INTERACTING & SPREADING THE VIRUS! We need to stop physical interaction to stop the spread & flatten the curve IF we serious bout stopping covid
SA gov is not serious about curbing covid spread & stopping deaths. The new variant was created under level1 restrict. Everything is open & it's business as usual. Ppl interacting & everytime a new person gets infected, it's an opportunity for mutations to occur & new variants
IF SA gov wants to stop covid, then: Close bars, gyms, cinemas, casinos, restaurants. Limit indoor gatherings to not more than 20 people, stop year-end and Xmas parties. Mandate work from home. Actively police mask wearing and hand sanitisation at public places
Mandatory vaccines will never work in SA, imagine taxi drivers who are mostly unvaccinated allowing only vaccinated passengers 💉💉💉
