A new retail development in South Africa’s mall capital is making significant progress – with an entertainment centre and petrol station on the cards.

The centre will have 25,000 sqm of gross letting areas, with anchor tenants including Food Lover’s Market, Builder’s Warehouse, Ford and Toyota Dealerships.The centre will be on the corner of the two busiest roads in Springs – Wit Road and Jan Smuts Road.The centre, which broke ground in November 2023, will first create a shopping centre. A possible phase 2 extension, featuring an entertainment hub and a fuelling station, is also earmarked.

Springs is situated to the east of Johannesburg and was originally known as a mining centre. However, it is now experiencing significant industrial growth. The area’s roughly 55,000 population is mainly lower to middle-income earners, with 42% earning of residents between R5,500 and R22,000 and 34% earning between R22,000 and R44,000.Partner contentPSG Head of Securities Wendy Myers on what the shrinking JSE means for investors
