A “large number” of those infected and who have died from Covid-19 in SA were black, health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said on Friday.

This means that there are now 29,240 confirmed cases across SA, with the Western Cape still the epicentre. He was speaking at a media briefing on Friday.

Earlier at the briefing, he said a “large number” of those infected and who have died from Covid-19 in SA were black.been requests for racial data for infections and deaths, but that this information was not readily available because this is not how it was collected.“As far as Covid-19 is concerned, at this point we actually don't see a distinction between most of the challenges that we face which are affecting the majority of South Africans, particularly among the black community.

While she said this figure changed daily, it was a “clear reflection” of the backlog as of Thursday, May 28.“The problem started in the first week in May when demand exceeded supply due to a global shortage of extraction and high throughput kits, interruption with production, flight cancellations and custom delays,” Chetty said.

The largest backlog was in Gauteng , followed by KwaZulu-Natal , the Eastern Cape , Western Cape and Free State . There were no backlogs in other provinces.

All deaths are sad but correct demographics would help topoint out where the hot spots are 15% ic the population are nog black African so thd death demo Shd show this Fof every 13 back deaths there should be j non black . J ghink it will be about that !

Liar💩

So Whites bring the virus from Europe and infect Black people, black people die in numbers and still want to open firms, mines and schools? So, you're killing black people with the help of white people?

So Ndlozi was right🤔....but in SA isnt it bcoz we are a majority?

We’re these poor souls hiv positive

you might find most of the casualties can't even afford a domestic flight and probably died of lack of medical funds.

So that's why we are forced to stop the locked down?

People have been queuing at ANC public clinics and hospitals since 4AM way before this virus only to receive ZERO help and eventually gave up on getting treatment for underlying diseases!!

Maybe if ANC clinics and hospitals weren't so darn right PATHETIC a lot more people could've collected their chronic meds, been treated better for comorbidities long before this virus!

So how is the ANC going to politicize this one!?

TheMonKeeBoi 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ who's the majority? Rocket science is difficult for these CancEROUS cadres.

Ooh, the teletubbies are going to be up in arms.

The largest backlog was in Gauteng (24,000), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (22,000), the Eastern Cape (21,000), Western Cape (15,000) and Free State (1,767). There were no backlogs in other provinces.

I still believe that StatisticSA would have played a crucial role in providing accurate information while HealthZA DrZweliMkhize focuses on fighting the virus lockdownextension schoolreopening COVID19

I dont believe it

Wonder who push you to come up with that statement

I smell lies. Not even 1 person that I know died from vivid19

Even in Cape Town?

Eh. Demographics.

Lies to scare us, location speaks better

Well if dat's de case den let's agree dat doz ppl died from 'underlying illnesses' rather dan COViD19🤔 masingaqanjelwa amanga bakwethu sibadala!!☝🏾

Why needs to be pushed to release such information

90% of SA is black, go figure

Didn't collect their meds during lockdown

They would be...remember the townships laughing off the lockdown with Corona parties DrZweliMkhize , remember MbalulaFikile taking taxi bribes to go anywhere..diseases dont take bribes...you fools

Confirmed Covid-19 cases in SA spike to 25,937The recoveries to date are 13,451, which translates to a recovery rate of 52%. Ho hum, wake me when this exceeds last year's seasonal flu stats Mkhize, do you really want to put your face next to those numbers? Why did you let those psycho Aholes intimidate you? We need level 4 in hotspots. After finding out that scientists are not consulted in decision making processes.... I can't find it in me to even read or listen to anything Mkize says. In my opinion, it's uninformed statements which I prefer to ignore. A little knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge.
