The DA said one of the factors that may have led to voters not voting DA was its handling of its dispute with former Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille.

AUCKLAND PARK - The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng said the way the party dealt with the former mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille had had a negative impact on in its campaign.Former mayor of Tshwane Solly Msimanga, who was vying for the position of premier of Gauteng, said his party could have done better.WATCH: Aunty Pat is just fine after the DAThe results of Gauteng’s three big metros are still coming in, with the African National Congress securing an uncomfortable lead.

Over 80% of the province's votes have been finalised and it remains to be seen whether Msimanga's seemingly far-fetched dream of becoming Gauteng premier could come true.

How you functioned as an opposition is what had a negative impact. Get rid of the dead wood and put some meaningful and competent people into the ranks. My vote was lost to you among thousands of others.

Agreed. It was a Shakespearean 'execution' that turned out to be divine justice for the DA. This, like thousands of others, changed my vote against my beloved DA. I pity Mr Maimane because his advisors are not street-savvy nor world-wise, however learned they may be.

Yes! We need Lindi Mazibuko back and we need to use the results of this election as a motivation to work harder, reach more people and get more people to go out and vote! No more bashing the ANC, we should rather magnify our successes more.
