The public protector is probing the KZN Education MEC for apparently spending about R100K a month on a hired car instead of using a vehicle that he inherited from his predecessor.

Durban - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is probing KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu for apparently spending about R100 000 a month on a hired car instead of using a state vehicle that he inherited from his predecessor.Mkhwebane’s spokesperson, Oupa Segalwe, said the probe was under way, and said the public protector had met the complainant this week.

“The public protector has since January 2020 been investigating the matter. Correspondence has been exchanged with the MEC and the ,” said Segalwe. It was reported late last year that Mshengu had opted to use a hired car for more than five months at a cost of about R500 000 after he was advised against using a Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 he inherited from former Education MEC Mthandeni Dlungwane as it apparently had mechanical faults.

Mshengu told Independent Media on Wednesday Mkhwebane had written to him, requesting information about the hiring of the car.“We welcome the probe by the public protector as I am quite certain that it will vindicate me,” said Mshengu. DA MPL Imran Keeka said his party met with the public protector’s investigators at her Durban office to make further submissions.

Previously, Mshengu told the media that he had contemplated using his own car, but shelved the idea after realising it would cost the state R153 000 per month.

BlackEntitlement BlackArrogance

African_Spring You wonder what he would’ve done was it HIS own money. What a scumbag incurring such wasteful and unnecessary expenditure.

PP won't find anything there

This Mshengu leech and Busisiwe are an embarrassment to the black nation. Both must just buggeroff and leave us to deal with our own problems alone

Why don't the MECs use their own cars? This is one perk that needs to go. The houses too. If teachers, nurses, police men and women should forfeit this years increase, all this perks need to go.

The fact that mkwembane support RET it will depend on which camp u are.

Let them fire that MEC. He is a LIABILITY in that DEPARTMENT . Spendrift. He does not KNOW the VALUE of MONEY. Jesses man.

kabelodick ke tseo ditaba 👆🏽👆🏽

He must be fired already

Vindicated or not, corruption or not. R100k a month for a car? Our country truly has no chance

Bebedlisana hawu...🥺

ANCKZN musanukudelela nina imalengaka? Niyasangana yini Sihle? sziks vimbani lo MEC umsanganoke lo. EFFKZN vusumuzikhoza Zwakelem aaibo nathula boSihle baganga!

What is actually wrong with these people

Make him pay it back now ..

who still trust PP after the Estina debacle?

R100k a month? His explanation should be interesting. On a hired car nogal. These mec's think departmental budgets are their own personal piggy banks...

She is not yet attacked neh

Fire him and make him pay back out of his own pocket?

R100000 a month? From Tax payers money😭😰

I once saw him on NewsroomAfrica trying to explain i hope he still has story right

The MEC doesn’t personally benefit unless he has a connection with the car supplier. But you have to wonder how someone in public office in a poor country can be expected to be “vindicated” for such conspicuous waste.

He must pay back from his own pocket

Pay back the money bloody thief!

Some politician are jst.....

This is said either way. If he losses it will mean our Government doesn't have control over it's employees. If he wins he will think it's okay ukuganga ngemali kahulumeni

R1000 or R100.000

CoruscaKhaya I didn't imagine such happening under the new leadership of CyrilRamaphosa PresidencyZA.

'his car would have cost the state R153000 a month' what are these people earning And driving!! Wtf is going on with the MYANC

That's why they killed him and many others who believe in his values and thinking are attacked ⬇️

Integrity continues to elude these ones.

Anc fraud as usual. Remove and jail him for stealing OUR money.

100k a month he must be removed and then charged for fraud and corruption.

Vindicated for spending public money unnecessarily?!

This is a crime.

Why do these cars always have a mechanical fault as soon as they need to be used by someone new?

What did this car come with Heidi klum serving you steak? Why so much

I drive a nice car but it doesn't cost me R35 000,00/month. It has a park assist and a rear camera. Politicians are crazy at times. These are the people we need to stone to death.

Why can't comrades suspend him pending investigation and disciplinary hearing of course if comrades will take him to that route

myanc territory - entitlement!

ANC people doing what they do beat - mindlessly wasting taxpayers’ money.

100k a month! Disgusting lock him up.

Witchcraft is rife in KZN and he probably thinks is bugged or worse littered in Muthi. Either way it is plainly disgusting. sziks ANCKZN must deal with this.

I wonder how? 🤔

Watch the so called ANCYL KZN attack the Public Protector

politicians, tiring

Sam Chabalala gets bail and his convoy hits traffic copFlamboyant Mpumalanga businessman Sam 'Mshengu' Chabalala is again a free man after being granted a R500,000 bail in the Middelburg magistrate's court yesterday. We don’t have a country anymore. A corrupt individual gets bail while on bail & we have poor people in jail just because they can’t raise bail money. This man got bail because his handlers are worried about losing their shares in businesses if he gets deported. Money can buy a judge. It can but the whole parliament And we still conduct business with fraudulent people. We are downgraded to a joke status. This is bad

PODCAST | LISTENER QUESTION: Have modern cars become too clinical to be fun?The assertion that all modern cars are missing 'character' is a common accusation levelled against them Boredom comes when the car is so advanced and in control that it basically removes the entire driving experience. You just sit there. Many prefer that though. Especially a drive home from a stressful day.
