‘It is a shame that inequality has become sharper during our constitutional democracy than during apartheid.’

JOHANNESBURG – Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has berated the gap between the rich and poor in the country, saying it was a shame that since the advent of South Africa’s constitutional democracy in 1994, inequality had become “sharper” than during the apartheid era.

This year’s theme for the lecture focused on “Constitutionalism as an Instrument for Transformation”. “The purpose of this lecture ought to be: What is wrong with our society? How did it come to be that 25 years down the line we still have people without homes, we still have racial discrimination, ethnicity, gender discrimination, and even tribalism?” Mogoeng asked.Mogoeng said the Constitution was an instrument for building a society in which nobody would have a reason to be “ashamed of his or her state of affairs”.

Mogoeng said people who say South Africa's challenges shouldn’t be blamed on colonialism and apartheid were being “mischievous”.

Well the ANC leadership , friends and family have become very rich off the back of apartheid....including the GUCCI mafia

Remove the 16million illegals out of SA we will have no inequality

Because of the ANC?

GautengANC ,MYANC when is chiefjustice nominated for No1 post.

Africa is so poor because of the decisions made by their Leaders.

But the country is governed by black people, this is so disappointing .

But only a few days ago they were StrongerTogether with those whom inequality favours. They were angry with one of their reminding them of this reality because a game is more important than the truth. My people are still ripe for oppression. They love their abusers too much

It's only getting worse... while the inequality worsens.. CyrilRamaphosa is increasing it buy defending the appointments of those whom the inequality favours instead of reversing it. We need a revolution. ANC never freed us, now it shows.

Sad

One would have expected him to say that after 25 years it is an absolute disgrace that our “noble revolutionary” ANC have been unable to move the gauge, except backwards.

I thought we are united and equal and stronger together
