It feels familiar and new at the same time. It squeezes so much emotion and a cast of memorable characters into its 97 minutes. Allen is genuinely endearing in the lead role. Her quirkiness and innocence made me think of Abigail Breslin inworks so well. Hsieh and Petsa absolutely nail their roles as Bev's besties and as tween girls waiting for their period and searching for their place in the world.
