Meet secretive Greek military unit that NATO Special Operations HQ rated as 'combat ready', 'exceptional'
The ETA, the Greek army's tier-one special-operations unit, earned top marks from NATO's Special Operations Forces Headquarters in December.
.With less than 100 special operators in total, the ETA is one of the smallest special-operations units in the Greek military. The ETA can operate in all war-fighting domains, including land, sea, and air, and even though it's part of the Hellenic Army, it has an amphibious capability.
As a strategic special-operations unit, it's intended only for the most important and most difficult operations. It is on constant no-notice standby for a deployment anywhere within Greece.ETA special operators frequently train with American Green Berets from the 10th Special Forces Group, Navy SEALs from SEAL Team 5, Navy Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen from Special Boat Team 20, and Air Commandos from the 321st Special Tactics Squadron.
