The ETA, the Greek army's tier-one special-operations unit, earned top marks from NATO's Special Operations Forces Headquarters in December.

With less than 100 special operators in total, the ETA is one of the smallest special-operations units in the Greek military.

ETA special operators frequently train with American Green Berets from the 10th Special Forces Group, Navy SEALs from SEAL Team 5, Navy Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewmen from Special Boat Team 20, and Air Commandos from the 321st Special Tactics Squadron. NATO first began coordinating its special-operations capability in 2006 with the creation of the NATO Special Operations Coordination Center .
