Mark Char showed up to his Oahu sentencing in blackface. He said it was meant to protest his conviction earlier this year.

Hawaii - His crime was shocking enough - pepper-spraying and stabbing two men in a road-rage case, then knifing the third man who stopped to help them."This kangaroo court has given me a life sentence for me trying to protect and defend myself against the attack from three guys, in essence treating me like a black man," the Ewa Beach, Hawaii, resident told the court in a moment captured on video by Hawaii News Now.

Hawaii News Now reported that a person in law enforcement believes Char used a black permanent marker to color his face. The Post was unable to reach Char. His court-appointed lawyer, whom Char reportedly railed against as "incompetent" in court on Monday, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"I can't speak for the judge, but that the fact that he showed up like that yesterday - at least for me, I think everybody just wanted to get it over with," Dowd said.
