The village is reticulated but in drier seasons when the taps run dry, the villagers have to rely on water trucks that deliver once or twice a week.Capricorn district covers Polokwane (the provincial capital city), Blouberg, Lepelle-Nkumpi and Molemole local municipalities.

READ: “It’s been a struggle in the village and when I drilled my borehole, which is a more reliable source, I decided that I would not drink alone. I understand the frustration that comes with not having water for a day,” Mpe said.He said that the district would look into drilling more boreholes in the village to ensure uninterrupted water supply. Private water trucks that the municipality hires, he said, were not reliable.

Supplying water by trucks is a temporary relief and people want piped water to be available 24 hours a day,Capricorn District Municipality executive mayor John Mpe“People go to banks to get loans and buy trucks when we have a water crisis. What then happens when things get to normal? Will the same people not disturb the water system in order to continue having contracts with the municipality?

“My opinion is that the municipality should have its own trucks and hire drivers or buy half of the needed trucks and outsource 50% of the work,” Mpe said.“Supplying water by trucks is a temporary relief and people want piped water to be available 24 hours a day,” he added.

The Capricorn district is generally arid and experiences low rainfall patterns and 80% of the area depends on ground water. In the last financial year, the district budgeted R627.7 million in water regional schemes and R52 million towards the maintenance of water infrastructure.

The delivery of portable water in the district stands at 89% while sanitation is at 65%. Read more: City Press »

Let's not praise a bird for flying, What is his job? He actually failed them Big up And it will not be made public without the presence of media. Did he show/explain to the same media WHY there is no clean running water. 2 Jojo tanks What an insult. So he’s doing them a favor , he can switch off when he wants to

So the day he is angry he can close the taps or the day he is removed as an Executive mayor.... He could have ensured that thw village get its own borehole not to rely on him He is not helping where is service delivery there he is just enjoying to see poor people coming at his house for water Better life for one's family the voters must push wheelbarrows

💁‍♂️💁‍♂️ City press praising under performing mayor 🤭 🙄🙄 How is it possible that the mayor is the only one that has access to water in that community? Rather than calling it generosity it should be condemned. That means that borehole belongs to the community but he took it to his yard I can't congratulate a bird for flying

That borehole was paid for by tax money so why it's in his yard? We salute you Mr Moyor, we all forgetting that your term is only five years but those taps will always remain for help to those who needs them. Don't listen to negative comments who does nothing to help those around them. Is it not the responsibility of Mayors to ensure that Municipalities supply fresh clean water to their communities.. But here mayor John Mpe is getting praised.. Time for LindiweSisuluSA DWS_RSA to climb on board as well..

Problem solving at the infantile level. If there underground water the solution could've been solved with town engineering, or is that nonexistent in ANC led towns? Nothing impressive here This right here is leadership Mopani district municipality always has no budget for my community to have water. Why doesn't he use the millions we pay him to fix the water system in the whole area? Isn't that his job? This is why ancMustFall. Buying a few people's loyalty to keep them beholden to the anc. Disgusting.

Municipality you lead mr mayor must dril borehole for the community In fact the mayor must also put a number of outside flushing toilets in his yard so that they can have proper toilets. He will realize that his is not to help but ensure that there’s service delivery. Good gesture by the mayor Mayor is helping them? Really? So why the mayor doesn't take public money and make a borehole for the community?

Doing what he is PAID to do! Why is this news? Are we supposed to praise fish for swimming now? So he is a hero.....WOW the bar has never been this low Kanti isn't a mayor supposed to ensure the supply of clean drinking water to the people this is praising a fish for floating in water
