After a recent announcement by Johannesburg mayor Geoff Makhubo, the public participation process to rename William Nicol Drive has begun.

“We said as the City of Johannesburg to come and pay our respects and officially launch the start of the public participation process to rename William Nicol [Drive] after a motion of council was passed a year and half ago, to honour Winnie Mandela and ensure that with time William Nicol will be renamed after her,” said Makhubo.

“Name changes are symbolically important and symbolism matters. If the majority of streets, for example, are named after white political figures, that is conspicuous in a majority black country,” he said.

Show us the money

...because after all... ...with all the poverty, joblessness, murder & rape, crime, lack of services, crooked tenders and politicians stealing us blind... THIS is the most important thing a politician can sink his teeth into to better our lives!!! 🙄🤔🤮

It’s become a third world slum with its multiple corner beggars, side walk “vendors”, filthy litter and unruly taxi drives so who cares what’s its named these days - it’s become an excellent reflection of the way SA government runs the country by its misrule and incompetence !

If William Nicol Drive is renamed every person when on this drive should throw a Stompie out of their vehicle window to remind us all of what really happened to Stompie.

Really, why not donating this money to the rural schools. I hate our government, for sure.

Yawn!!!!

Surely the tender is worth billions of rands🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️

honestly this is a waste of money, they should be using that money to build/fix more schools in rural areas or developing other communities

We have informal settlements named after her and funny those INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS aren't going anywhere, now freeways are going to be called after her also. Confusion Confusion Confusion.

IDIOTS

Pity she’s long gone now! She won’t even witness that ish🤦🏾‍♀️

🤦🏽‍♂️
