Troops patrol the Noord Street taxi tank in the Johannesburg CBD during a lockdown-enforcement operation. The Institute of Race Relations has called on the government to allow more people to go to work during the lockdown.
But a lockdown would be sustainable only if its economic fallout could be mitigated, IRR CEO Frans Cronje said. The concept of “essential workers” should be replaced with an assessment of whether a person could continue with their economic activity without posing a health risk to others, he said. The IRR published a report last week sketching possible scenarios for SA’s Covid-19 outbreak, and suggested a range of policy interventions to mitigate the socioeconomic effects of the disease. These ranged from encouraging banks to renegotiate debt repayment plans with their clients to exempting people who had recovered from Covid-19 from the lockdown regulations.
When people start dying then they will blame the government 🤔
they have a few good points on facilities and risk assessment vouchers and especially the fact that lockdown come with unconstitutional law enforcement hindering the process more than adding value we as society dont like to be bullied no matter the cause - let it fall wherever
Y'all can't be serious
Call it off then. This is not a lockdown.. More like a vacation
