Ngcobo, who has an established profile in all artistic corners, will take up his new position on July 1. Armed with a lot of experience, he will be responsible for developing and implementing an artistic vision for JCT’s 10 spaces at Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre. According to the state, Chabalala, who is a director of eight companies, had been awarded a tender as a service provider to the City of Johannesburg. He will also work at the newly refurbished Jabulani Amphitheatre in Soweto. However, it’s alleged that he influenced some employees at that supply chain department to duplicate his invoices, resulting in him being overpaid for goods and services. JCT CEO Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema said she was pleased to welcome Ngcobo. “The suspect is accused of paying staff members at the City of Johannesburg to secure contracts from the city,” said prosecutor Adv Terrence Zitha, who opted not to oppose Chabalala’s bail application. "He brings the experience and expertise to elevate JCT’s offering in continuing to deliver quality performing arts and entertainment productions that are attractive to both traditional and regular theatre goers, but also to new and diverse audiences. The likes of DBN Gogo, Blxckie, and ByLwansta are ready to hit the stage.

” Nduneni-Ngema said that Ngcobo is an award-winning actor who metamorphosed into a multi-award-winning director and has a reputation for artistic excellence. “It is alleged that they [Chabalala and City of Johannesburg staff members] would duplicate invoices for work that was done once,” she said. “It is alleged that they [Chabalala and City of Johannesburg staff members] would duplicate invoices for work that was done once,” she said. “He brings extraordinary experience as a dynamic and respected artistic director to Joburg City Theatres with 15 years across various theatre verges. He has worked in theatre, television and film as an actor, producer and director.” A source close to the investigation said gatekeepers in the department became suspicious of Chabalala’s invoices and alerted the police who then investigated his business accounts and picked up several transactions made to the city’s employees. He became the first black artistic director of the Market Theatre Foundation in 2013 where he was previously Associate Artistic Director working with Malcom Purkey from 2006 to 2007. “The authorities went further to check the employees' bank accounts which confirmed that the money was indeed coming from the bank accounts belonging to Chabalala,” said the source.” Ngcobo said after spending"a good nine years at the Market Theatre, it is time for change". However, in his bail application, Chabalala denied any wrongdoing. It creates safe spaces, introduces new sounds and brings to the forefront various Joburg sub-cultures and creative communities.

"It is absolute exciting for me to join Joburg City Theatres. I've always loved new challenges and I am looking forward to the new challenge and also working with a dynamic board. “I concede that a charge of fraud was brought against me. “I concede that a charge of fraud was brought against me. Joining Joburg City Theatres is part of the curating job that I have been doing for years. When I start, I am going to give myself time to understand the three theatres, how they work and start working on the programme. “I have no previous convictions or pending matters against me. But I have time to adjust because the current programme of the theatres will go until November." He pleaded for a reasonable bail amount, saying he earned a monthly salary of R8,000 and had three children that relied on him for financial assistance. The board includes the event producer, business strategist and venue owner Theresho Selesho; designer, artist and creative director Jana Hamman; LGBTQI pioneer, DJ, and content creator Lelowhatsgood; skate scene champion and filmmaker Day Marumo and amapiano-centred talent management agency owner, Thuli Keupzz.

Mine will start in January next year. The court granted Chabalala R4,000 bail and the matter was postponed to July 12.” JCT board of directors chairperson Zane Meas said he has known Ngcobo for many years and have worked together on a number of projects. "We are excited for him joining the Joburg City Theatres team and to see the fresh energy and ideas that he will come with. “The board is looking forward to a great working relationship with James as we know his work and work ethic throughout the years. May this be a long and fruitful period not only for him but also for Joburg City Theatres. Night Embassy has provided “an opportunity for us to create an alternative Kasi nightlife experience on a bigger scale,” says the Kombonation team.

” Ngcobo is acquainted with Joburg City Theatres’ stages and the City of Joburg arts programmes.
