Capitec announced last week that chief financial officer André du Plessis will retire on June 30. Described by the group as a “co-founder”, he joined the bank on its establishment 22 years ago. According to Capitec’s most recent annual report, Du Plessis had 900 595 shares in the bank. This equates to a holding of 0.78%. He, together with the entire top management team of Boland under MD Stassen left in 2000 and joined Michiel le Roux’s new bank. This team included Carl Fischer , Du Plessis, Christian van Schalkwyk , as well as André Olivier and Chris Oosthuizen . Du Plessis wrote the original Capitec business plan. He, Fourie and Henk Lourens are the only founding members still with the bank. The rest have retired.
