Competition Commission's decision to turn down Sasol's sale of cyanide unit is based on dubious grounds

It went relatively unnoticed, but the Competition Commission’s decision this week to block the purchase of an SA business by a foreign company will again raise questions about whether SA really wants the foreign investment it claims to want, and whether our competition regulators really want to achieve a more competitive economy.

The commission prohibited the sale of Sasol’s cyanide business to Draslovka, a Czech company that is one of the world’s leading producers of cyanide. Gold miners need cyanide to get the gold out of the ore. The commission prohibited the deal on the basis that it would result in an increase in the price of cyanide post-merger.

Getting rid of the anc comrades thieves will help them All the anc comrades thieves want is stealing taxpayers money, they don't care about the 73% youth unemployment rate Life Esidimeni deaths never bothered them

Joffe's recent articles are interesting from the perspective that she deals with the inherent message of government actions while so many focus just on the issue itself.

If by signals you mean a bright neon sign the size of the Cyril’s beachfront property in Cape Town? Then yes.

Deeply concerning

And they are not getting domestic investments from me either. Except some speculative, less than 5% of my portfolio, commodity plays.

Ja, they confuse investments with WMC! And that they hate!

And if it carries on with its expropriation without compensation madness, it won't get any foreign investments either

Zolani Matthews sacked by PrasaThe Passenger Rail Agency of SA has fired its CEO Zolani Matthews for holding dual citizenship, which it says was a material breach that he did not disclose. Any black person in their right mind should boycott this nonsensical Times live and never press on the link. Naledi must organise something for me. MbalulaFikile Just a little ask… why would dual citizenship & security clearance be an issue now at Prasa when this wasn’t the case at other SOEs like National Ports Authority?
