The health department said it is finalising processes to completely outlaw smoking in public places., which would push for, among other things, a 100% smoke-free policy in public spaces. The draft law seeks to provide for control over smoking, to regulate the sale and advertising of tobacco products and electronic delivery systems, to regulate the packaging and appearance of tobacco products and electronic delivery systems and to make provision for the standardisation of packaging.
This also includes the prohibition of free distribution of tobacco products and electronic delivery systems. The current Act allows for 25% of a public space to be designated as a smoking area, but the revised one will have zero provision for this. “Tobacco has been reported as a risk factor for coronary heart diseases, causing heart attacks. It also causes several types of cancer, the most prominent being lung cancer. Smoking contributes to a host of other diseases such as stroke, kidney failure and tuberculosis.
“Tobacco kills half of those who use it and shortens the life of users by 10 years, with the last years of life spent gasping for breath when walking or suffering heart attacks and heart failure,” Mkhize said. He said South Africa was one of the first countries to protect children from tobacco by banning the sale of cigarettes to and by minors, banning advertising, promotion and sponsorship of sporting and social events by tobacco companies, and prohibiting smoking in a car when children under the age of 12 are present.
I agree with that!!!
It's all good to ban smoking in public places
Why not just ban the product from manufacturing? Nevermind where it can be used.
Thank u GovernmentZA
Should focus on their court case
Having a cigarette does not kill people on the road!!!!!! Alcohol causes family abuse AND death on the roads. But then the mentality of some people really needs to be zero in order to make such decisions. Thank God I don't smoke and can do without alcohol.
I would call it nonsense as no country has such laws and the pushing economy to collapse and people to suffer! There are real issues which they should concentrate on and leave people to their choice
Is smoking in public ok? If it is well continue talking
Where there are smokes, there is freedom
That's not going to stop people from smoking... People are smoking even now, 68 days into the lockdown
The Tobacco control bill has been in discussion and through the normal parliamentary process over the last 2 years. A time for comments on the bill was given in 2018. At that stage the main objections came from big business. This article uses our current context to stoke a fire
😅😅
What next will be banned
